John Walter “Peg Leg” Dickerson

Cottageville – John Walter “Peg Leg” Dickerson, 62, of Cottageville, SC, entered the arms of his Heavenly Father on December 30, 2019. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 3rd, 2019 at Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory, Barnwell, SC. with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
John was born in 1957 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Dale Leroy, Sr. and Selva Broadwater Dickerson. John was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a talented artist, word smith, poet and woodworker. John was a fun-loving person and jokester. He loved to cook and barbeque and loved a challenging game of Words with Friends, Scrabble and Zilch. He was an avid CLEMSON football fan. John loved motorcycles and was a member of ABATE. He had a big heart and was always eager to participate in fundraisers and charity events. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his two children, Jeremy (Regina) Dickerson of Cottageville, and Sarah (Michael) Ramsey of Hanahan, five grandchildren Benjamin Ramsey, Paul Ramsey, Samuel Ramsey, Cody Hardee (Caitlyn Hardee), Shelby Powell (Matthew Clark), and two great grandchildren (Lily Hardee, Emily Hardee). Also surviving are five siblings, Dale (Ruthie) Dickerson Jr. of Denmark, Susan Dickerson of Bamberg, Ralph (Ruth Ellen) Dickerson of Blackville, Michael (Birdie) Dickerson of Branson, Missouri and Karen Dickerson of Asheville, North Carolina.
He is predeceased by his parents, Dale Leroy Dickerson Sr. and Selva Jean Broadwater Dickerson, previously of Barnwell, South Carolina.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff (Josephine and Genesis) of Amedysis Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory with the arrangements.
