Barnwell – Henry Pickering, 56, was called home to be with Jesus on April 22, 2016. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 4:00 pm at the Life Tabernacle Church, Barnwell, SC with the Rev. E. P. Coto and Rev. Robert Mahuron officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, April 25 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dyches Funeral Home, Barnwell, SC. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Chavis, Kevin Coto, Matthew Mahuron, Timothy Thomas, Paul Coto and Joey Chavis.
He was born in Orangeburg, SC on July 2, 1959, to the late Ordell Pickering and Martha Pickering.
He received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 1982. He was retired from SCDOT of 23 years. Henry was a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend and will be missed by many. Henry was a faithful member of Life Tabernacle Church. Henry fought the good fight and he has finished his race. I know he will hear “well done thy good and faithful servant”.
He is survived by his wife of twenty five years, Penny Pickering, two children, Bethany (Arkivious) Mackins and Luke Pickering of Barnwell. Mother, Martha Pickering of Branchville, SC. Three brothers, Gary Pickering of Muscatine, Iowa, George Pickering of Branchville and Hubert (Linda) Pickering of Williston. Brother-in-law Marty (Beverly) Williamson of Barnwell, SC. Four nephews, three nieces and two adopted grandchildren Sylvia and Zechariah Chavis of Blackville.
He is predeceased by a brother, Millam Francis Pickering.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Life Tabernacle Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1021, Barnwell, SC, 29812. Henry’s desire was to see our new church built for God’s glory.
The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory with arrangements.
